The Webtrends Analytics Power BI Data Connector allows you to import your data into Power BI via our Data Extraction API (REST) with point and click ease. All reports on an individual profile are now available at once; no more limited report lists. The date range options have been expanded to allow standard report periods as well as custom date ranges. A customer account with Webtrends is required to use the Connector.
Accessing The Data Connector In Power BI
There are two methods for accessing the Webtrends Analytics Data Connector within Power BI.
The first is through the "Get Data" option on the splash screen at startup.
The second option, if you've chosen to not display the splash screen at startup, is through clicking the "Get Data" ribbon option in the user interface and then selecting "More" from the list of options.
You will be presented with a search bar, in which you'll want to type "Webtrends Analytics"
Retrieving Data Using The Webtrends Analytics Data Connector
To retrieve data via the Data Connector, you'll need to know the Profile ID of the profile you're wanting data from. You can find the profile ID in the URL used to access the profile in the UI. Simply navigate to the profile in Analytics X and then look for the following:
Once you have the Profile ID, go back to Power BI and enter it into the Connector dialog box.
You'll then need to specify your desired Period and Report Type. The Period defines which of the two date options you want to use, Start and End Date or Start and End Period. Start Date and End Date accept custom date ranges. Start and End Period accepts standard Report Periods. Several report period macros are available: CURRENT_DAY, CURRENT_MONTH and CURRENT_YEAR. For example, to get data for last month, specify Start Period as current_month-1 and End Period as current_month.
The next option to be specified is Report Type. Report Type specifies if you want the data returned:
Summary - Aggregated totals for the selected time period
Trend - Multiple time periods sorted by Dimension value (If Trend is selected on a multi-dimensional report, only the first dimension will be returned.)
Individual - Multiple time periods sorted by Time Period (Recommended)
You then need to fill out the time specifier for the Period type selected above.
If you haven't used the Data Connector to connect to Webtrends before, or if you cleared your credentials in Power BI, you'll be prompted to enter them.
The format for the credentials will be:
Once your credentials are accepted, you will be presented with the Navigator window. Simply highlight a report to see a preview of the data or check the checkbox and click "Load" to import the data.
